  1. noun. [prov.] Abiding, tarrying, &c.–In Ceylon and some other places it is used in combination with other words, in some of the meanings of தரி, v.
  • தரிய — To stop, to tarry, to be detained, தரித்திருக்க.
  • தரிகொடுக்க — To allow of room, convenience, &c., as a place (superstitiously regarded, or otherwise).
  • தரிகொள்ள — To become settled in a place. 2. To become fixed, stationary. 3. To be permanent, to abide. பிள்ளைகையிலேதங்குதரிகொள்ளவில்லை. The child has been restless.
  • தரியலர் — Enemies, foes, பகைவர்; [ex அலர்.] (சது.)

Having, holding possession, கொண்டிருக்கை. 5. Dwelling permanently in a place, குடியாயிருக்கை. 6. (loc.) Treasure, stoke, or cash, in hand, கையிருப்பு. 7. Pause in reading, speaking, &c., நிறுத்துகை. 8. A lodging, resting place, இருப்பிடம். 9. (in Madras, தருப்பு.) A small flat, diamond-like stone, வைரத்தரிப்பு. அவனுக்கங்கேதரிப்பில்லை. He will not get a footing. கையிலேதரிப்புண்டா. Have you money in hand?
