அஞ்சு (añcu) — noun

அஞ்சாம்வருணம் — The fifth caste, Pariahs, &c.
அஞ்சாலியிடையர் — [prop. அஞ்சார இடையர்.] A tribe of cowherds; whose women wear, in their marriage neck jewel, five ornaments, or ஐந்தாலி.
அஞ்சாரப்பெட்டி — [prop. அஞ்சறைப்பெட்டி.] A box that has five compartments, one in the middle and four surrounding, made of palmyra leaves or other materials for containing flowers, spices, &c.
அஞ்சுருவாணி — (as அச்சுருவாணி.) An iron bolt passing through the five tiers of a car. அஞ்சுமூன்றுமுண்டானாலறியாப்பெண்ணுங் கறியாக்கும். Even a young girl will be able to make a curry, when she has the following three and five things, viz., புளி, souring; மிளகு, pepper; உப்பு, salt; கடுகு, mustard; and சீரகம், cumin–which are the five; and the three are நீர், water; நெருப்பு; fire; and விறகு, fire-wood–said by an angry husband to his wife when the curry is not good. பூதங்கள் அஞ்சும் அகத்தேங்கும். அஞ்சு (añcu) — verbal noun
, கிறேன், அஞ்சினேன், வேன், அஞ்ச, v. a. [used with the dative, sometimes with the accusative.] To fear, dread, பயப்பட, as அவனுக்கஞ்சுகிறேன், I fear him; அவனையஞ்சினான். He feared him.
அஞ்சல் — Fearing, dreading, பயப்படல், Also the optative, வியங்கோண்முற்று. 2. Defeat, தோல்வி.
அஞ்சாப்பட்டயம் — A certificate from the king, formerly inscribed on metal, clearing a man from the charge of guilt and re-establishing his rights as a citizen; a writ of authority, a security against oppression or ill-treatment. 3. A passport or writ of protection in passing through a country, தத்துவபரிபாலனபத்திரம்.
