Carpenter's or mason's line, ஏற்றுநூல்.–In combination it takes grammatical changes like நால். Of நூல் or sacred learning there are three:
முதனூல், an original scientific work regarded as divine, the Vedas
வழிநூல், a work derived from and agreeing with the original, being an enlargement, as the Vedanta
சார்புநூல், a work following the original, secondary, but differing in some particulars; collateral writings, as the Adwitta. நூற்பலகல். Study many books. (Avv.) நூலில்லாமல்மாலைகோத்தல். Stringing flowers without a thread; i. e. fabricating. நூற்மறைதெரிந்துசீலத்தொழுகு. Search the Shastras, and lead a regular life. (Avv.)
நூலச்சு — A weaver's reed, நெசவச்சு. 2. [prov.] A goldsmith's mould for drawing wire, கம்பியச்சு.
நூலடி — A line or membrane passing from the privy parts to the anus. 2. A mark made with the carpenter's line, நூற்குறி.
